(PLTM) - BVI’s Olympic Track and Field athletes had the opportunity to speak with hosts of ESPN Sports Network yesterday, August 9th 2016 about their experience in Rio so far, as well as their expectations.

Eldred Henry, Ashley Kelly and Tahesia Harrigan-Scott are currently in Rio, Brazil, set to represent the British Virgin Islands in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Scott, who was the first woman to represent the BVI at the Olympics, expressed that she is gratified for the opportunity. This is her third consecutive appearance at the Olympics.

“I’m always proud. This is my third consecutive Olympics, so to be the first woman to have the opportunity to represent my country, I’m ecstatic about that.”

Similarly, Henry, who is also humbled by the experience and opportunity, stated that he is focused on making the finals in his category, as well as achieving a new personal best.

With laughter, Kelly was questioned about her role as flag bearer for the BVI team, to which she responded, “It was amazing. I thought the flag would’ve been a bit lighter than it was, but it was working my arms.”

Kelly highlighted the opening ceremony that took place last Friday, 5th August as her favourite part of the Olympic experience so far and added, “I haven’t done much. I’ve been training, so hopefully the next couple of days I’ll get to explore before I get on the track.”

They all assured the hosts that they have been settling in well in their location and made known their delight in seeing sprint superstar Usain Bolt up close and in the flesh.

This interview follows ESPN’s one on one yesterday morning with BVI’s swimming sensation Elinah Phillip, who is also taking part in the Summer Olympics.

The BVI athletes' first round of events is scheduled to take place on August 12 with Tahesia Harrigan-Scott in the Women’s 100m Preliminary Round/Round 1. The Women’s 100m Semi Finals and Finals will take place on August 13.

Also on August 12, Elinah Phillip will compete in the Women’s 50m Freestyle Heats with the Semi Finals taking place later that day. The Finals for the 50m Freestyle takes place on August 13.

On August 15, Ashley Kelly will compete in Round 1 of the 200m. The Semi Finals will take place on August 16 and the Finals on August 17.

On August 18, Eldred Henry will be throwing the Shot Put.

Updates on the BVI athletes at Rio 2016 will be posted on the BVIOC accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and can be found on these platforms under BVI Olympic Committee.
