Update: Illegal Immigrants In Good Health - Police

(PLTM) - The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force has confirmed that a number of illegal immigrants from Cuba and Haiti were nabbed off Virgin Gorda (VG) last evening, Thursday, September 8, 2016. Police have indicated that they appear to be in good health.

According to police in a press release issued today, September 9, the Police Marine branch with the assistance of the Immigration Department detained 20 immigrants who were at the time onboard a fiberglass motor vessel close to VG around 7:00 pm last night.

Acting on information received, police boat St. Ursula was out at sea at the time the vessel was spotted, close to Brown Rock.

"Of the 20, 17 were males and all but three were Cubans. The other three were Haitians," police stated.

"All appear to be in good health."

The illegal immigrants were handed over to the Immigration Department for processing.

Over 20 illegal immigrants are currently being held by local authorities after they were nabbed in the waters off Virgin Gorda (VG) this evening, Thursday, September 8, 2016.

According to information reaching BVI Platinum News, some twenty four persons, believed to be natives of Cuba and Haiti, were caught while on a speed boat. Among them was a ten year-old child.

They are currently being held by Immigration.
