(PLTM) - Delvin Leonard, who is accused of beating his girlfriend, was scolded earlier this week in an appearance before Magistrate Tamia Richards.

Prior to him being sentenced for the offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, which he pleaded guilty to at an earlier date, the court highlighted his actions, informing him that such will not be condoned.

Allegedly, on October 5th 2014, as a result of an argument between Leonard and his girlfriend, who is also the mother of his child, the two got into a squabble and he struck her several times.

It was also noted that this incident took place in front of their child.

The Magistrate stated that the offence of domestic violence is very prevalent in society and it needs to stop. She added that the matter was made worse for the fact that he [Leonard] assaulted her in the presence of their child.

“This is not acceptable,” the Magistrate exclaimed.

Leonard was ordered to pay $1500 by November 7th or serve 2 months in prison in default.

Magistrate Richards also noted that the court is of the view that victims of these crimes deserve compensation, but chose to withhold that order after hearing that the accused and the victim are still together.

“Considering that you and her are still together, the compensation would indirectly come from her pocket.”

Leonard also completed the Partnership for Peace Programme.
