(PLTM) - One of the major problems faced by consecutive governments has been solved with the completion of the Road Town sewerage project, announced Hon. Mark Vanterpool, Minister of Communications and Works. He told reporters that residents may be unaware of this development, but the only thing they have to complete under the National Sewerage Project is the East End/Long Look portion. "We finished the Road Town part of it. I don’t believe people will realize that we are already processing the sewage in Road Town to a tertiary level. So that we are no longer sending any unpleasant sewage drain off into the basin in the Sea Cows Bay area," he said. "...That (drain off) our good member for the third and leader of the opposition (Hon. Julian Fraser) is always complaining about. We have it now being processed completed on a tertiary level in Road Town." The works came to end with sheet-piling works on Boo Bay Drive, in front of the St. William’s Catholic Church, and subsequently on Nibbs Street, in front of First Bank. The works consisted of bi-directional drilling and installation of the final 200 feet of 18 inch gravity sewer pipe from a manhole on Boo Bay Drive to a manhole on Nibbs Street. The firm, Gene Hodge Trucking & Backhoe Co. was contracted at $1.3 million to carry out the gravity mains project in that area. Meanwhile, Minister Vanterpool said that they are also looking to complete the East End/Long Look sewerage project by the end of next year. "We are also moving very swiftly in the next 12 to 18 months to complete the project on the eastern end of the island so that they can process sewage in the Paraquita Bay area," the Minister said.
