(PLTM) - As rare as it may seem, communities still show acts of comradery and support in the British Virgin Islands. This was demonstrated last evening and early this morning, September 20, when persons of Carrot Bay and the surrounding areas joined forces to assist one family in finding their mother.

86 year-old Doris Dawson Hedrington of Carrot Bay was reported missing sometime after 5:00 pm yesterday, September 19th 2016.

Word soon got around of the family’s predicament and support came in numbers from the church, members of the community and Hon. Andrew Fahie, Representative for the First District. Their efforts assisted the family in searching the hills and the ghuts throughout Carrot Bay from last night.

In an interview with Ms. Hedrington’s son, Lincoln Hedrington, he disclosed that his mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's, has wandered off in the past, but she always returned. He noted that last night was very strange because she did not return.

Ms. Hedrington was found after 6:00 am this morning on an old plantation in Carrot Bay.

“There is an old plantation; I saw someone moving in white. I called her name and she answered me,” Lincoln stated.

“I thank the community for their overwhelming support. I also thank the Representative of the First District, Hon. Andrew Fahie,” he noted.

Hon. Fahie also thanked the various communities for assisting the family in locating their mother.

He said the community came together to show once again that in unity there is strength. "This proves that prayers from godly people still are answered,” Hon. Fahie noted.

Hon. Fahie used this incident to further encourage persons in the BVI to continue their efforts of creating a strong Virgin Islands.

“I urge each other in these Virgin Islands to exhaust all efforts in rebuilding our Virgin Islands, where we continue to strengthen the bonds of unity that our forefathers built these Virgin Islands on."
