(PLTM) - The first of the Tortola Girl Guides has joined the cadre of advocates who campaign for the detection and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease in the British Virgin Islands.

The young girls of the group, as well as their guardians, were educated further on the disability by member and spokesperson of the local BVI Alzhiemer's Association, Ms. Edna Williams last evening, September 19th.

Speaking to the leader of the group, Ms. Sylvia Forbes, she explained that the girls were interested in the topic for a while and wanted to learn more about the disease.

“The association came and educated the girls about the disease and how it affects the individual and their families.”

The group also made a postcard, adorned with names of persons who they learnt are living with the disease and gifted it to the association.

Forbes said with the girls now equipped with the information, they are now aware of the disease and are in a better place to educate their friends and other persons on the topic.

The group also lit candles in commemoration of persons living with Alzheimer's in the Territory.
