(PLTM) - “Memories don't live like people do,” is a very old but convenient adage for persons and families who have lost a loved one. The Territory is currently mourning the death, but celebrate the life of businessman and Deacon of the New Life Baptist Church, Mr. Neville Burke, who succumbed to a prolonged illness on Saturday, September 24th 2016 at the Peebles Hospital. Burke, 76, who is originally from Antigua and Barbuda, migrated to the Territory over 50 years ago. In 1973, he founded Burke’s Garage, located in Wickhams Cay II, Tortola. Burke's Garage, since its inception, has been one of the leading service centers for vehicles in the BVI. Persons from all stature within the local society visited the establishment and saw the pride and enthusiasm Mr. Burke had in his job and towards his customers. Some say his warm attitude and humble personality were the tickets to his successful businesses. Many took to social media to express condolences to the family, as well as to share priceless memories in remembrance of his life. Bishop John Cline shared, “New Life and the BVI, we have lost a true, tried and proven soldier. He was a friend and a father to me. I will miss him. Rest in peace Deacon.” Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines in remembrance said, “Mr. Burke was a kindhearted man. I knew him from living in the same apartment building in Purcell. He and my mother were very good friends. As a single man in those days, my mom would cook and wash for him and his roommate at the time. Truly a gem of a man. RIP Mr. Burke.” Burke will be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather and relative, a successful business man, and a great friend and role model. He is survived by his wife, Ethlyn Burke; his children, Bradley, Alicia, Theodore, Benaiah and Felicia Burke, as well as a host of grandchildren. Details of the funeral will be disseminated by the family in due course.
