(PLTM) - Despite her small voice and timid personality, this teen is sure to make a huge impact in the British Virgin Islands. Through her humanitarian efforts, her determination and career goal, 17 year-old Kayana Skelton is one to keep your eyes on.

The young President of the Interact Club of Road Town is an example to many. Through her leadership role, she encourages other young persons to serve beyond the aim of volunteering, but rather serve until service becomes life.

Such a rare trait in young persons, Kayana always gets a thrill out of helping other persons, especially their immediate reactions to her efforts of making someone's day or life brighter.

“I love helping, it allows me to put service above myself.”

Kayana is also a youth advocate and uses her platform to encourage other young person to dedicate their time to assisting others, or lending their voice to a pertinent cause.

“I encourage others to be a part as well, because it's something that you can look back at in the future and be proud of what you have done and persons you’ve helped.”

This is not a phase for the teen as she intends to climb the ladder in the Rotary family, right up to Rotarian.

“I see myself being someone who would always be involved in community service and helping others however I can.”

Kayana said, “It's [Rotary] a good club; you think beyond yourself. It doesn't matter who you are, you can make someone smile and you're capable of making their day a whole lot better through your actions.”

In her journey as a leader, Kayana is of the view that with so many youth clubs existing in the BVI, everything that needs to be covered are covered. Nonetheless, through her club, she continues to empower youths through an empowerment dinner.

“There's nothing the clubs haven’t touched yet [in the BVI], but we [Interact] do our little part by having a youth empowerment dinner, where we bring youth groups together and we have a guest speaker who encourages and motivates youths.”

Kayana also intends to travel to Virgin Gorda in her capacity as President to assist in the development of their Interact Club. This beauty also has a passion for beauty and aspires to be a the owner of her own makeup company and a professional makeup artiste.

She is currently enrolled at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College and has made the Dean’s and President’s lists since her studies commenced in September 2015.

She is pursing studies in small business, which she indicated will change very soon, as she intends to switch to accounts and finance.

“I intend to change it because when I finish small business, it's just a step for me to own my own business, and that and accounting goes hand in hand.”
