(PLTM) - Phone expenses incurred by the British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) are said to be above expectations, as staff members who are equipped with mobile devices at the authority’s expense continue to take advantage of the privilege. This is according to a report recently made available by the BVIHSA titled, Revenue and Expenditure Budget for the Financial Year, October 2015 - September 2016.
As documented, the BVIHSA saw the allocated funds designated to cover telephone bills, as outlined in a previous budget, being exceeded by a whopping $167,906 for the year 2015.
To this end, discussions are underway between the BVIHSA and their service provider to address the issue and ways of it being regulated.
Staff members of the authority will also be subjected to undergo training on how to properly use the mobile handsets.
With a focus on the 2016-2017 budget, the authority has projected a decrease in cost of utilities, inclusive of water and electricity, and a reduction in telephone costs, as management aims to implement strategies to control staff usage and spending, particularly for mobile users.
The budget set for this year end is $321,075, which is relatively less than that of the previous year, which was set at $384,300.
