(PLTM) - The Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR) is seeking funds to facilitate the purchase of two new vessels. To this end, under the patronage of Governor John Duncan, the Board of Directors at VISAR and the team at Oil Nut Bay, a fundraiser will be held on December 3rd at Oil Nut Bay to raise funds for the new vessels. According to VISAR, it currently operates two boats which are based on Virgin Gorda (VG) and Tortola. “Both boats have 18 months left before they need to be retired as search and rescue vessels. VISAR runs solely on private donations made by individuals and local businesses in the BVI, with the majority of our donations coming from the Bareboat Charter community,” VISAR stated. Further, since its formation, they have carried out over 450 search and rescue missions, helping more than 1,200 people in distress and saving over 40 lives. “Our 100% volunteer crew and coordinators are ready to accept the call that could save someone’s life and 45 crew members are standing by to respond. Search and rescue can be a difficult and dangerous job.” VISAR stated that their volunteers come from all walks of life, including accountants, hospitality, marine, IT, lawyers, engineers and architects. A range of corporate membership levels offering brand exposure benefits are available to support life changing search and rescue response.
