Update: O’Neal To Be Flown Overseas For Treatment

(PLTM) - The family of former Premier Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal disclosed today, Tuesday, October 4, that he will be airlifted to the United States (U.S) for further medical treatment after he suffered a stroke over the weekend.

In a statement today, his daughter Abby O’Neal, on behalf of his family, said that on Friday, September 30, 2016, Hon. O’Neal experienced severe discomfort and nausea, and was admitted to Peebles Hospital for observation and attention.

“Following analysis by doctors, it has been determined that he suffered a stroke and that it will be in his best interest if he is airlifted to the United States for specialist care,” the statement indicated.

The family thanked the staff at the Peebles hospital for their professionalism over the period.

“The medical and administrative staff of Peebles Hospital have displayed exemplary professionalism and care, for which the family is most grateful. The family thanks everyone for your visits and prayers and asked that everyone keep Hon. O’Neal in your prayers at this difficult time,” the family expressed in the statement.

Political veteran, elder statesman and former Premier, Hon. Ralph T. O'Neal has been hospitalized since Friday, September 30, 2016.

According to information, Hon. O'Neal is in a stable condition. Information is that he was feeling unwell and family members took him to the hospital, where he continues to rest.

Hon. O'Neal, who retired from politics prior to the June 8, 2015 general elections, is the Territory's first Premier and served 40 uninterrupted years as an elected official.

Up until 2014, Hon. O'Neal was the Chairman of the main Opposition, Virgin Islands Party.

He has served in a number of capacities, including Premier, and before the name change of the head of government, Chief Minister.

Hon. O'Neal has been elected to political office for three decades.
