(PLTM) - Various companies and professionals within the private sector of the British Virgin Islands have made known their commitment to invest in persons of the BVI, who are interested in learning and eventually making a career in fields relative to financial services.
These pledges were made during a recent panel discussion by BVI Forward, which featured members from both the private and public sectors in the BVI.
Heads of twelve industry associations in the Territory are gearing up to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Education, which outlines several areas of cooperation designed to provide BVIslanders with a path to greater entrepreneurial and employment opportunities in the financial services sector.
These industry professionals will then provide counseling to the interested persons, deliver financial services content in the classrooms and provide input to the financial services curriculum, keeping it up to date and relevant to maintain student interest.
Additionally, before year end, Mentor BVI, an initiative spearheaded by BVI Financial Services, will see young persons across the Territory being connected with various businesses and persons in the field of their interest, where they will be given insight to that particular field.
The MOU also gives way for persons to be involved in a work experience programme, where students would have the opportunity to work in a business of their interest in between their school terms, and a financial services entrepreneurship training programme, focused on the opportunities within and related to financial services.
With the assistance from the private sector in this pertinent area, BVI Forward moves closer to fulfilling its top priority of building the capability of BVIslanders.
According to the agency, in an effort to sustain the industry in the long term and to create more opportunities for locals to enter and contribute to the field, investing in the capabilities of BVIslanders is key.
