(PLTM) - In brief remarks, Turnbull shared that she is overjoyed for the opportunity to represent her country in this year’s Miss World Pageant.

She added that her participation also creates an opportunity for her voice to be heard on the issue of Clinical Depression, an illness she has been exposed to personally.

“I believe in sincerity, I believe in creativity, I believe in being educated and I believe in being appreciated. These make up the recipe to overcome depression. I boldly embrace these qualities as I represent the British Virgin Islands as Miss World BVI 2016-2017," she said.

Chairman of the local committee, Damion Grange shared that his committee is confident that Ms. Turnbull will represent the Territory at the highest level.

He noted that opportunities such as these are not new to Turnbull, as she has represented the BVI on other platforms, namely fashion.

“She went to New York Fashion week as a BVI model, in addition to other regional and international fashion shows. She has been exposed to international stages," Grange noted.

He continued, “I think she is a confident young lady. She has been through much and I think her story will resonate in Washington D.C.”
