Three Honored By Premier For Philanthropic Efforts

(PLTM) - The Miss World BVI committee recently launched their Beauty with a Purpose Philanthropic Award, which saw two BVIslanders and an organization being awarded by Premier of the Territory, Hon. Dr. D. Orlando Smith for their humanitarian efforts and contributions to the British Virgin Islands.

The awards were handed out on Friday, November 25 at The Moorings.

The awards, broken down into three categories, saw the Rotary Club of Tortola being recognised as an Outstanding Philanthropic Organisation; Gloria Fahie received the Lifetime Philanthropic Award; and Jaleel Cameron was the recipient of the Outstanding Philanthropist Award.

Each awardee will also receive $1000, compliments of Premier Smith.

The Premier encouraged the awardees to continue their efforts, as it contribute to the betterment of the Territory.

He shared that he too has made personal philanthropic efforts throughout the region, and added that it is worthwhile.

Damion Grange, Chairperson of the Committee told BVI Platinum News that his committee is extremely excited to honour individuals and organisations in the Territory, who are doing their part in making the BVI as great as it is. He noted that this being the first year of the awards, the awardees were selected based on comments from persons in the community, but added that a proper committee will be formed and persons will be invited to submit nominations for next year’s selections.
