President of Lion, Mr Carvin Malone and Hon. Mark Vanterpool, Minister of Communications and Works, at the Christmas tree lighting, November 2016

(PLTM) - The BVI community is being implored upon to look out for those who are in need during the upcoming Christmas season. Communications and Works Minister and Fourth District Representative, Hon. Mark Vanterpool, speaking at last evening’s annual Christmas tree lighting at the Sir Olva Georges Plaza, reminisced on his visit to Bethlehem, the birth place of Jesus. He said that individuals should all strive to live a life similar to Jesus---having great humility. “…The example of Jesus was not about being in the high places with the high officials, attending to those who had great riches, or going to the great parties and great functions. Jesus was one who showed humility, lived among those and tried to help those who needed help, those who did not have." The Minister said, "And that is the spirit of Christmas that we know about here in the Virgin Islands. We take a little time out, even if we are guilty of not doing so all year around as we should do. But we take a little time out during this time to look out for those who may not have, those who maybe struggling." Minister Vanterpool stated that in life, it's what you do for others that show your true character. "I want to encourage us at this Christmas time 2016, as we come closer to it in a few weeks time, to remember those abroad, those among us, those within our own families who are suffering," he expressed. "…Remember that it's not what we do for ourselves, it's what we do for others that Jesus looks down on us for, so that we will know someday that our living will never be in vain."
