(PLTM) - The British Virgin Islands is wishing farewell and good luck to yet another ambassador, Mrs. Angelle Cameron, who leaves the Territory today, November 29, to compete as Mrs. British Virgin Islands in the Mrs. Globe Pageant in Hainan, China.

Her departure follows in the tracks of Miss World BVI, Kadia Turnbull, who left the Territory on Saturday, November 26 to compete in the Miss World Pageant in Washington D.C.

From December 1, Angelle and 70 other delegates from around the world will engage in several charitable movements, in addition to participating in a number of segments, namely Introduction, Cultural Wear, Swimwear, Evening Wear, Talent and Interview, all leading up to the live show and crowning moment on December 11.

In an exclusive interview with Mrs. Cameron, who was officially crowned as Mrs. BVI on March 19, she expressed excitement and gratitude for having the ability to represent her home.

She shared that this opportunity allows her to showcase the BVI with the world, noting that she will be traveling with numerous gifts for her fellow contestants and persons of the various charities she would be exposed to.

“I’m taking a lot of my BVI with me. What we love about the BVI and what they can’t get from nowhere else but the BVI. Some of these delegates may never be able to come to the BVI and we need to be practical about that.

Along with BVI hospitality, the beauty noted that she will be taking to the competition a sense practicality.

“I’m not a typical queen, I’m not someone into pageantry at all. I rather be the one to see how everything plays out, but being on the front end I get to see what a lot of these girls in pageantry go through.”

She added, “For me, I’m taking realism to the show; I’m not taking the world peace queen thing, I’m taking realism. Showing persons this is where we are and what we need to do.

Mrs. Cameron expressed that she hopes to make it to at least the top five contenders of the show, or even take the title, which comes with financial assistance for one year for charities of her choice.

The show, being staged in China, will also reap some benefits for the Territory, according to the beauty, who explained that this would allow her to speak on the BVI’s stance in the financial services industry, along with their strong relationship with the Chinese.

“It will be interesting for me to see what that experience is like, how much we are promoted and what is happening when it comes down to the BVI. My participation and possibly winning the title, we stand to have our name associated with being towered not just in regards to financial services and sailing, but it also demonstrates what we are as a people when it comes to charitable organizations.”

Throughout her year, Angelle has made indelible contributions to the BVI Diabetes Association, which is the adopted charity of the Mrs. BVI Foundation.

Her efforts through a video series and proactive presence on social media, has notably increased the awareness and knowledge of useful tips for persons who are diabetic.

“I’m trying to get the message out there in an unorthodox way. We see articles every week, but how many people read them? I’ve been doing things a bit differently, getting the word out in a practical way about the organization.”

As a contestant, Angelle also has the opportunity to highlight a platform of her choice as a part of the ‘Lifestyle Challenge’ component of the pageant, which encourages women to impact change in their communities around the world. Mrs. BVI chose to focus on Environmental Sustainability.

“I am a big green head. I am not as overly green like some, but there are some sustainable changes I think as a Territory we need to implement now.”

Angelle noted that her platform stems from her love for her islands and the need to preserve its beauty for her children and the children of other locals to live, see and appreciate it.

“I don’t want Pockwood Pond to turn into cancer heaven, where we burn so much garbage there, we don’t have clean air. I want to make sure when persons go to the supermarkets, you either take your cans in your hands or you walk with your sustainable bags. I want to ensure that we are not importing styrofoam, plastic bags and plastic spoons and cups that cannot be degraded.”

Her efforts towards these aims have been a steady campaign on social media, in addition to her participating in several relevant forums.

She shared that her efforts will continue beyond her reign.

“As a Territory, we know we want to be sustainable, we know that diabetes is an issue, but how do we move forward? My hope is that at the end of my reign, it doesn’t stop here for me. It’s not practical for me to get all these things done in a year, and I’m working towards these changes...”
