Daniel Davies Called To The Bar

“It is now my turn to be a positive person of the community, to not only uphold the constitution and the law, but to try to help where ever I can.” These were the words of the newest member of the British Virgin Islands’ legal fraternity, Daniel Davies. In a ceremony earlier today, November 29, Davies was officially called to the Bar. Davies recently completed his studies and earned his Legal Education Certificate at the Eugene Dupuch Law School in the Bahamas, this year, 2016. Prior to that, he attended the University of the West Indies, where he earned a Bachelor of Law Degree. Throughout his tenure in school, Davies has increased his knowledge of the profession by interning at various firms around the Territory, including Sabals, Harneys and Walkers.

(PLTM) - In an endorsement by Ms. Dancia Penn Q.C, who also made the application for Davies to be called to the Bar, she highlighted that Davies has come a long way. “After being thrown out of Cedar School for being mentally backward, he was home schooled for a year and then went to the Enis Adams Primary School, where he met teacher Sylvia Adams and Dianne Parsons, who set him on the right and proper path,” said Ms. Penn. Notably, she highlighted that Davies was the first BVIslander to serve as Law Society President at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus. While in law school, Davies also underwent training in alternative dispute resolution, with a concentration on mediation and negotiation. He obtained a prize for the best male student of the course. “He is a good and proper fit to be admitted to the Bar,” Ms. Penn noted. The new lawyer also received endorsements from Mrs. Dian Fahie-DeCastro and Mr. Michael Maduro. Briefly, Mrs. Fahie-DeCastro stated that the success of Davies is not his own, but is shared with his family, whose support is very strong. “So many young men his age are amongst the negatives. Witnessing this gives me hope and shows that success is possible, with support and love.” The ceremony saw attendance by Hon. Premier Dr. D. Orland Smith and Deputy Governor Mrs. Rosalie Adams, both of whom have made significant contributions in his life. Persons of the legal fraternity and representatives from various law firms around the Territory, along with friends and family also attended the occasion.
