Hon. Julian Fraser, Opposition Leader

(PLTM) - Unlike 2014 when he was elected Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), Hon. Julian Fraser, following his shocking defeat to Hon. Andrew Fahie, shunned the media as he exited Maria's By The Sea last evening, November 30, 2016.

"Speak to the new Chairman, speak to the new Chairman. I am out," he said as reporters approached him for a comment following the main opposition Virgin Islands Party's (VIP) internal elections. The party's delegates voted out Hon. Fraser as leader, choosing Hon. Andrew Fahie, First District Representative.

Hon. Fraser, when he was voted in as Chairman, had spoken to members of the media immediately after the results.

When asked what was Hon. Fraser's reaction following the results and whether he congratulated him, Hon. Fahie said, "Well I shook his hand and congratulated him for being a very formidable opponent and I told him that I will be calling on him for his advice and support, because this is not going to be a me thing, but a we thing."

He said, "It is going to call for constant communication and support for each other and at the end of the day, no one person has all the answers."

Hon. Fahie was asked about the known rift between him and Hon. Fraser, and how he intends to work beyond this.

"My aim is to get along with whoever the people of the district send on the VIP ticket. So for me...no problems with Hon. Fraser. I think that sometimes some of his supporters carry things a little far and make things seem worse that they really are."

He said: "I have spoken to the people that supported me and I asked to speak to those who supported him...It's over and we have to move forward together. So I am not going to dwell into those areas. You will not catch me doing that. We have a lot of work to do."
