(PLTM) - Customers around the Territory are alarmed over what they deem a possible scam from local telecommunications provider, Flow BVI.

Individuals who reached out to BVI Platinum News highlighted that after being involuntarily signed up for a free trial of Flow Sports, a new service being offered by the company, in order to discontinue the service before a monthly bill takes effect is posing a big issue, as the option provided is non-functional.

In a text message sent out to its customers yesterday, December 1, Flow BVI encouraged their patrons to email a specific email address as an indication of their disinterest in continuing the service.

The text read, “Notice to broadband customers: Your free trial of Flow Sport ends soon. To avoid the monthly $20 charge, opt out by emailing bvi-customerinquiry.com.”

However, having done so, persons received a message that their emails are undeliverable.

The email response received by patrons reads, “The recipients mailbox is full and can’t accept messages now. Please try resending later, or contact the recipient directly.”

“I find this is wrong and needs to be investigated. Seems they [Flow BVI] will charge you for this [Flow Sports] whether you want it or not,” said an angry customer of the company.

In contact with Ms. Sarah Graham, Marketing Manager of the provider, she told BVI Platinum News that the company is aware of the issue and although they are not sure of the extent of the problem that may be causing the issue, she noted persons are receiving those emails because of a spam protector attached to the given email address.

“I understand the fear, but it is nothing for persons to be concerned about, as they have 30 more days before the monthly bill takes effect.”

This was noted to address the notion of various customers, who were of the view that the bill will take effect almost immediately.

Graham said, “We are not sure why it happened, but it’s something to do with the spam filter in the email box. We are working to rectify the issue. In the meantime, I encourage persons to enjoy the service while it is free. It’s a wonderful service, something they can enjoy.”

The trial period of the service began at the beginning of November and will run through the end of the year at no cost.

She also noted that when the billing takes effect for the service, persons who may have missed warnings and messages, and have no interest in the service, would be reimbursed.
