(PLTM) - Despite the small turnout, the event is scheduled to take place every Sunday until December 18, which is the day Santa Clause will make an appearance bearing gifts.

Haley Trott, Assistant Secretary in the Ministry and organiser of the event said, “We did expect it to be small, it’s a little smaller than anticipated but we do anticipate that the next two Sundays will be grander, and we expect the 18th to be out grandest event.”

The Ministry intends to make this initiative annual.

“This is our first year for it and we plan to make it an annual event. We are using this year as a pilot and will improve it for the years to come,” Trott said.

Counting down until December 25th, the Ministry, in collaboration with other organizers will host events throughout Road Town every day.

The initiative is said to provide entertainment for tourists as well as to sum up business for stores in the area.

“We anticipate a lot of visitors to the island during the season, in addition to the residents living in the diaspora. So even though there are other events happening outside of town, our focus is in the city, where persons can stay in town and in walking distance to various businesses that they can patronize,” noted Nikita Turnbull, Information Officer assigned to the Ministry.

She added, “It’s not to take away from any other event, but to have something when there is nothing else.”
