(PLTM) - After a year of the matter being on the court’s list, John Maduro finally entered a plea in the case where he is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and being armed with an offensive weapon.

The accused pleaded not guilty to both charges when he reappeared in the Magistrate's court last Friday, December 2.

According to court records, following an altercation between Derrick Brathwaite and Mrs. Sheree Maduro, wife of the accused, Mr. Maduro attacked Brathwaite.

The court heard that Brathwaite, a groundsman at the Central Administration Building in Road Town, had allegedly touched Mrs. Maduro inappropriately and refused to apologize.

The crown’s details further revealed that the accused visited the job site of Brathwaite and punched him in the face, causing injury to his right eye.

Maduro then attempted to remove a machete from his waist, but it was quickly wrestled from him by co-workers of the victim.

Maduro will return to court on February 10th 2017.
