(PLTM) - Boat Boomorang, skippered by Kevin Wrigley, is the winner of the 47th annual Peg Legs Round Tortola Boat Race, which occurred last weekend, December 10.
Boomorang outmaneuvered 15 other boats to claim top spot.
The course of this regatta took the racers anti-clockwise around Tortola, giving them the option to sail between Scrub Island, Great Camano, Guana Island and Tortola, or head further out to sail outside them all.
The fleet then headed to West End, where after a quick wiggle through Soper’s Hole, it was their final leg back to the finish line situated just off Nanny Cay.
Also at the top of the score board was Pipe Dream captained by Chris Haycraft, where, after battling head to head with Boomorang, was defeated and settled for second.
Spike, captained by Sam Talbot, came in close behind in third place.
Triple Jack won the Multihull division with contender Fault Intolerant, a Gunboat 60, retiring due to gear failure.
David Lake and his crew on Wicked Winch took top prizes in the cruising class, while Keith LiGreci’s boat, Girasoli, dominated in the performance cruising class category.
The last three boats to hit the finish line, Gypsea, Wildfire and Sapphire Breeze, all came in within 20 mins of each other as the sun was setting with the last, Sapphire Breeze racing for more than 8 hours.
