(PLTM) - The Government of the Virgin Islands is doubling their efforts to ensure drivers do as much as they can to keep the Territory’s roads safe for both drivers and pedestrians, in addition to keeping the roads clean.

In a recent release, drivers, specifically those who operate pick-ups and trucks, were urged to fasten loose material while they are being transported.

This caution joins a host of other cautions highlighted by the local traffic department over the course of 2016.

The release sought to warn drivers that, “Unsecured truck trays with material cause debris to fall onto the road, making it unsafe for other motorists to drive.”

Motorists are also asked to continue to help keep the Territory’s roads driver-friendly for residents and visitors alike.

Persons caught with materials not fastened at the back of their vehicles and/or with said materials falling on the roads, are liable to be charged and fined.
