(PLTM) - Hon. Melvin ‘Mitch Turnbull left the House of Assembly with a broad smile yesterday, January 16 following the Premier’s budget address, as his concerns were addressed and financing will be made available to begin and continue vital projects within his district. In an interview with BVI Platinum News, the Representative for the Second District noted that his district will significantly benefit from this year’s budget, adding that the projects mentioned are as a result of him rallying the government, which was driven by the concerns the people he represents. Several weeks ago, as reported by BVI Platinum News, the backbencher boasted of having the remedy to how to get things done, noting that he goes with a big mouth to the Premier and Government Ministers, backed up by the support of the members of his district. "It's not as difficult as we put it up to be. Here is the key that I found---once I stick with you the residents of the Second District who elected me and I hear your concerns, I go with a big mouth on behalf of the people of the Second District. And I think my Premier and Ministers understand that if I don't get what the Second District wants, I will bring the Second District with me and it's that simple for me," Hon. Turnbull said at the time. Throughout 2017, the Second District will see renovations done on the Cane Garden Bay restroom facilities, in addition to the construction of restroom facilities at Brewers Bay. Construction will also be done on roadways in Jost Van Dyke, “to make the roads more enjoyable and safe.” “The Second District right now is the tourist destination with the beaches of Cane Garden Bay, Brewers Bay and the entire Jost Van Dyke. That’s where the people come,” Hon. Turnbull said. He continued, “So it [budget] will do a lot for the Second District and I will do my part as the representative, with the funds that are allocated for me to use for those persons that I represent, to do the best for them.” In general comments on the budget, he noted that it met its aim, which is to pave the way forward for the British Virgin Islands and for the benefit of all who resides in the Territory. “There are a lot of different aspects that the Premier spoke about, which as the leader of our party and as the leader of the government, in conjunction with the Cabinet, he makes decisions to go forward with. We [members of the House] just all have to find our parts individually to do what is necessary to continue to move the British Virgin Islands forwards,” said Hon. Turnbull. “Myself and the other District Representatives, and those At Large, just have to do our part and ensure that first and foremost, the people of the Virgin Islands to whom we represent, their interests are first and foremost at heart.”
