Hon Dr Kedrick Pickering, Deputy Premier

(PLTM) - The first step to combating the crime situation in East End/Long Look is for persons to stop pointing fingers at each other. This is according to Deputy Premier, Hon. Dr. Kedrick Pickering, who is also a resident of the area.

Speaking to fellow residents, Hon. Pickering highlighted that as times change, different challenges are faced, but noted that the key is communication and working with those who can properly assist.

“We live in a changing world, a changing environment and as we are more and more prosperous, we have to prepare to deal with different issues, different challenges. The police have a job to do, but all of us as citizens of the community equally have a responsibility to each other, to ensure that we do our best to protect one another.”

He stated that the issue of battling crime is not a job solely for the Commissioner of Police, the officers or the elected representatives, but rather, one for every resident of the Territory.

“The more we work together, the stronger and safer our communities will be. The missing link that will help police solve crimes is the people of the community. Us, who want to feel safe, the community who want to be able to live the life they have grown accustomed to.”

He continued, “The biggest mistake we make as a community is taking all of it for granted and start pointing fingers at others, and saying the police do not do their job, the elected officials do not do their job. That’s not going to help us.”

He said, “What is going to help us is that all of us band together and do our part. No matter how simple or small and insignificant you think it is, it adds up; little by little the bird builds its nest. It is important for all of us to understand and appreciate that we the people have a job to do, to support the police while the police supports us.”
