(PLTM) - The British Virgin Islands is in a whirlwind of press and promotion, as media companies, blog sites and international superstars all around the world are commenting on the Territory being the host of an extravagant, yet much needed vacation for the world’s most talked about couple, Barack and Michelle Obama.

After completing a second and final full term as the President of the United States of America, Mr. Obama and Michelle arrived last evening, January 23, in the British Virgin Islands.

The Obamas will be accommodated by world renowned business mogul and philanthropist, Sir Richard Branson on his private island, Necker Island.

The first gush of wind for the storm blew late yesterday afternoon when the Obamas boarded a jet, 3 days after they arrived at Palm Springs, California. The Obamas allegedly left Palm Springs due to inclement weather.

The plane, noted to be property of Branson, was enough fuel to hint the Territory as their next stay.

The storm went in full motion last night, after the Obamas touched down at the T. B. Lettsome International Airport, and then boated over to Necker Island.

This news has circled the world, being the highlight and main story for mega news companies such as BET, Daily Mail, TMZ, CNN and many others.

The BVI is also currently trending on both Twitter and Facebook, as persons continue to hunt for photos of the beloved couple.

The BVI Tourist Board is hoping to capitalize on the Obamas' visit, hoping that it will serve as an opportunity to raise the profile of the Territory.

“We are happy that the former President and First Lady chose the British Virgin Islands as one of their first vacations after his two terms as President," Director of Tourism, Mrs. Sharon Flax-Brutus told BVI Platinum News.

The Tourism Director said that the BVI has prided itself over the years of being a destination known for its peacefulness, it's tranquility and its respect for the privacy of high profile individuals, as well as guests who value privacy.

"We are hopeful that his choice will raise our profile as a destination that is very special and one that showcases a high level of personalized attention and true BVI hospitality," she stated.

The Obamas' vacation also brings about a host of mixed emotions among the international community, as persons took to social media expressing how much they miss the couple and asking them to come back to the USA, and assist in any other way they can.

In light of the spotlight on the BVI, international media have also highlighted that there are no direct flights from the USA to the British Virgin Islands. This is an ongoing and controversial topic here in the BVI, of which the local government is trying to rectify with an over $5M investment in an expansion to the airport, along with an over $7M investment in direct flights via BVI Airways.
