(PLTM) - Coaches of all disciplines existing within the British Virgin Islands are currently engaged in a workshop geared at enhancing their knowledge and practices regarding the long term development of their athletes. The workshop, which is being hosted at the Government Training Division Conference Room today, February 10, is organised by the BVI Olympic Committee (BVIOC) in collaboration with the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees. The event is being facilitated by Istvan Balyi of the Sports For Life Society out of Canada. In speaking with BVI Platinum News, President of BVIOC, Mr. Ephraim Penn stated that the training falls in line with the aims of the Olympic Committee, as their efforts continue to improve the developmental programmes for local athletes.
BVI joins five other Caribbean countries, namely Haiti, Bahamas, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname, in making the initiative available in their countries. Mr. Balyi shared that the training should take the BVI to new levels, noting that the Territory is at a good level when compared to other Caribbean islands, but internationally the BVI is struggling. “This course will help them to understand proper planning and raise their level. A plan to optimize the training of an athlete; if they don’t have a plan, they are improvising.”
