(PLTM) - Following a terrible experience in the West End area of the Island last evening, February 16, a fairly new resident to the Territory was faced with several dead ends in his attempts to contact local police for assistance.

Speaking with Seth Willis earlier today, February 17, he explained to BVI Platinum News that following a late night dinner at Myetts Restaurant in Cane Garden Bay, he discovered his vehicle was vandalised.

BVI Platinum News understands that the vehicle of Willis, who has been in the Territory just under six months, was doused on the inside with a half-gallon of oil he left in the back. Both the front tire and the spare tire attached at the back of the vehicle were also slashed.

After calling for assistance and having some repairs on the spot, he then journeyed to the Cane Garden Bay Police Station, only to find it locked. He proceeded to call the number provided on a flyer stuck to the door, but that too was unsuccessful, as the number went straight to a failed dial tone.

He further explained that he then called 311 and spoke to switchboard, who directed him to another dead end number.

Willis noted that the matter is still not reported to police.

The issue of operational hours at the Cane Garden Bay Police Station has been a topic that has received much scrutiny from persons of the area, highlighting their safety and difficulty with quick response for any assistance from law enforcers.

As previously reported by BVI Platinum News, according to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, the issue exists due to the force being understaffed, which obstructs the resource levels to keep both the West End and Cane Garden Bay stations open 24/7.

Due to these circumstances, the RVIPF at the time noted that a mobile unit would be on constant patrol in CGB, along with their assurance to respond to calls for service promptly.

Willis verbalized his aggression over the experience on social media, attracting attention and comments from several persons, included Governor John Duncan.

Governor Duncan wrote, “CGB Police Station is not manned 24/7. You can always ring the emergency number. Please do contact RVIPF so that they can follow up.”
