(PLTM) - Mr. Trefor Grant has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Virgin Islands Festivals and Fairs Committee, effective Monday, February 20. Grant, who replaces Kishma Baronville, comes at a time when the committee is being faced with pressure from the public to improve the annual festivities. Last year was deemed by many persons as one of the worst years, but the committee had blamed it on late funding from government. When contacted, Grant said that he could not speak to specific plans for festival until he has in-depth discussions with Hon. Myron Walwyn, Minister of Education and Culture. However, he noted that he will focus on making the festivities more culture-based and entertaining. "Most of all, my focus is going to be on renewing the focus on the cultural aspect of the festival, getting more of the youth and schools involved, as well as making sure we keep the festivity side of it entertaining at the same time," he told BVI Platinum News. Grant said that he was motivated to take over as Chairman because festival is close to his heart. "I have been involved in festival for a while, in many different capacities. It's very close to my heart, it's a part of me and I want to do anything I can to improve it," he related.
