(PLTM) - Chief Executive Officer of the National Bank of the Virgin Islands, Joy Francis said the bank’s recently launched Paradise community engagement programme is off to a successful start. Francis made the comments after a team from the bank launched the programme on Monday, February 20 on the Sister Island of Anegada.

According to the bank, representatives from the bank’s Operations, Customer Service and Credit Departments were on hand to provide residents of Anegada with the opportunity to open new accounts, query current accounts, apply for loans and learn about new services and products.

The bank set up its operations at the Anegada Public Library where residents met them, eager to open accounts and speak with officers.

“We had an excellent turnout from the community with residents asking lots of questions about our services, as well as offering suggestions to improve services to the Sister Island, given their remote location," Francis said.

Francis said having the chance to engage with the bank's clients directly, helped the team to understand the value of initiatives such as the Paradise programme.

“Today we met with a mother of newborn children. She was able to open Junior Savings Accounts for her children, query her accounts, apply for new services, as well as gain access to our online banking platform."

Francis said, "We saw first-hand how much time and expense it saved one customer by having us on Anegada for the day; but more importantly, it made it easier for her to set up a savings plan for her children’s future.”

Throughout the course of the day, the bank met with many other parents seeking to do the same. The bank’s Junior Savings Account was the most popular account opened by residents.

Business owners from around the community also had the opportunity to learn about the bank’s recently launched chequing account, as well as ways in which NBVI’s commercial services can support the growth of their businesses.

While on Anegada, with illustrative help from the bank’s mascot, Tola the Turtle, Francis also had the opportunity to read to younger students of the Claudia Creque Educational Centre, a short story from “Pass it On” by Virgin Islands’ author, Mrs. Jennie Wheatley.

While there, she also took the time to speak to older students about the importance of sound financial management and saving for their future.

The visit to Anegada was the first in the bank’s community engagement programme. The engagement programme, called Paradise, seeks to reach the bank’s customers directly to understand and provide services needed in the Territory’s evolving economy.

With that in mind, the bank is keen to understand what paradise means to its customers and provide financial services and products to help clients attain their version of paradise.

National Bank of the Virgin Islands will continue its Paradise programme with its next stop being Jost Van Dyke on March 8.
