(PLTM) - Four BVIslanders who have made and continue to make great contributions in the British Virgin Islands, are set to be honored this coming Sunday, February 26 at the New Life Baptist Church, as part of their unsung heroes awards. This is the church’s 13th annual celebration of their service of recognition.

Being honored are collegiate backetball hall-of-famer, Mr. Kieth ‘88’ Malone; teacher, Ms. Daisy Simmonds; nurse turned chef, Mrs. Jennifer Bertie; and former Deputy Governor, Mr. Elton Georges.

According to the selection committee, appointed by the church, each honoree was selected for their significant and unique contribution to the Territory.

Mr. Malone is being honored for his contribution in the development of the sport of basketball in the Territory, as well as his role in opening the gate for sporting tourism, while Mrs. Simmonds was chosen for her iconic role as one of the few establishments that set the standard for early learning in the education field.

Mrs. Jennifer Bertie is being honored for her years of service as a nurse and her remarkable commitment in the medical industry, and Mr. Georges is being honored for his years of service in the public sector as an educator and former Deputy Governor, and the significant impacts he has made to the community during his tenure as a public servant.

Last year’s honorees included former Commissioner of Police, Mr. Reynell Frazer; teacher, Mrs H.Lynden Smit; youth ambassador, Mr. Craig Lake; and NLBC Honouree, Ms. Donna Clyne.
