(PLTM) - In light of the atmosphere in the Territory, a government member as called for the Territory to have national prayer daily.

"Not just one day; everyday needs to be a national day of prayer because only God can help us now," lamented Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines, Sixth District Representative.

Hon. Caines was at the time speaking in the House of Assembly this week on the crime situation. "I am troubled about the deaths of our young people, especially our young men in this community. I am somewhat lost for words when I think back on the occurrences of the past couple of weeks where we have lost so many of our young men," Hon. Caines said.

The legislator said as mother, she questions how the BVI arrived at this worrying stage.

"I have a son too. Many young men in my district I have helped raise and this concerns me. I would ask for us to continue in prayer for this nation and for our people, and especially for our young men."

She said, "I often ask this question---how did we get to such a place? It’s not like years gone by when it was just the older people dying out; now the younger seem to be going in much more numbers than the older people."

The Sixth District Representative said there is no doubt that the young people are facing troubling times.

"Young men are dying and when you look on the other end, another group being locked away at Balsam Ghut (prison), much of who seem to think that they don’t have much hope left."

She said, "We cannot afford to lose anymore of our youth."
