(PLTM) - Eight local calypsonians are gearing up to enter the ring in a lyrical battle, all competing to be the Calypso King of the silver jubilee Virgin Gorda Easter Festival.

This year’s highly anticipated calypso show will be hosted on April 16 at the Bernice Sprauve Festival Village.

The contenders this year are Roland ‘Chico B’ Viera, Ale ‘Franco' Frett, Michelle Harrigan, Rueben ‘King Henry’ Henry, Reynold ‘King Paido’ Phillips, Joyce ‘Sistah Joyce’ Searles, Stephen ‘Ranking Ijah’ Johnson and Shevone ‘Queen Akua’ Findlay.

The reigning monarch is Chico B.

This year’s participants will compete for a cash prize of $5000.
