(PLTM) - The show was one filled with fun and laughter, but was equally coupled with moments of importance, as each delegate spoke against body shaming and bullying, as well as highlighting the importance of having confidence.

Each segment saw the girls speaking out for thick women around the Virgin Islands, who are constantly being ridiculed and scorned over their body.

Sending a key message, the contestants highlighted that beauty is not dependent on the size of one’s waist, but rather, on their personality, outlook on life and their attitude towards themselves, others and the world.

“Nothing thin girls have that a thick woman doesn’t or cannot achieve; family, love, a career and happy life,” said one of the contestants.

BVI Platinum News caught up with the newly crowned queen, who said, “No matter their [thick girls] size, race or creed, it’s just for them to feel confident in their skin.”

Sylvanna added that her participation in the show was to encourage other women around the Territory.

“I wanted to do something positive. I wanted everyone to feel that they are all welcomed in society.”

This is Sylvanna's ninth pageant and fifth crown.

The 2017 Miss Bold and Beautiful Pageant, which was one of the highly anticipated events of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival, was held under the theme, ‘Heaven On Earth’.

Prior to the show, Public Relations Officer of the festival, Ms. Adrianna Soverall said, “We haven’t had a Miss Bold and Beautiful in a long time, in five years, so people are really excited to see the show come back.”

She said, “I think the idea of the show has now moved away from it being unconventional. Plus size girls have come a long way and these girls are ready and will prove that no matter what size you are, once you are capable of performing, delivering and showcasing talent, anyone can be a queen.”
