(PLTM) - Within a week of the BVI Lions Club of Tortola's impending 45th Anniversary Gala and Fundraiser, twenty (20) individuals were inducted into the membership of the club and its new Club Branch at an Induction and Installation Ceremony held at the Moorings Mariner Inn conference room on Thursday, April 20th 2017.

In a deliberate effort to encourage the enrollment of younger service minded individuals, the Board of Directors approved the formation of the “Tortola Central Club Branch”.

Following orientation sessions by the liaisons officers, Lion Hesketh Newton PMJF and Lion Clovelle Stevens, the following founding members of the Branch were inducted and club officers were installed as Lions: Ottley Hodge, President; Rawlston Williams II, Vice President; Shaunice Leonard, Secretary; Ovry John, Asst. Secretary; Carlene Corea, Treasurer; Dominique Maloney, Asst. Treasurer; Venner Williams, Tail Twister; Brian Farrington, Tamer; Amorrell Newton & Eustace Freeman, Directors; Desron Brannigan, Leo Advisor and; Carl Benjamin, Kashima Callwood, Khalid Frett, Terence Gumbs and Donald Hanley, as members. The ceremonies were conducted by Multiple Districts 60A & 60B Council Chairman, Lion Marvin Grant, MJF.

Further to the inductees into the new Club Branch, four members were also inducted into the Lions Club of Tortola, as follows: Violet DeCastro, Kedrick Malone, Melissa Stoutt and Natalio Wheatley. This brings to twenty-three, the number of new members joining the Lions family following the earlier inductions of Lions Dr. Arthur Richardson, Lambert Wickham and Oral Wilson.

In addition to family and friends, the induction and installation ceremonies were witnessed by Ms. Marilyn Bass, Director of Adina Donovan Home; Dr. Sylvia Simmonds, Director of Family Support Network; Mrs. Vansittart Huggins, Director of Eselyn Henley Richez Learning Centre and Ms. Valerie Charles-Welsh, Principal of Enid Scatliffe Pre-primary School. The Tortola Lions Club meets at 7:00 pm on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month while the Club Branch members will meet on Thursdays at the Lions Den, Johnson Ghut, Tortola.
