Team Selected For Pan American Qualifier

(PLTM) - An all female softball team is gearing up to represent the British Virgin Islands in the IX Women’s Pan American Softball Championship in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, from August 4 to 13.

A total of 33 females have already been selected and will soon begin training with Terrence Chinnery, Allen ‘Woodrow’ Smith, Allison Leonard and Jeremy Penn.

The selected females are Akira Phillip, Annecha Graham, Bria Smith, Celine Thomas, Che’Vaunne Richardson, Chelsea Hodge, Claury Scatliffe, Darier Malone, Denecia Hodge, Donniesha George, Javlyn Frett, Jelisa Potter, Jheane Niles, Kaynesha Stoutt, Kennisha Powell, Khiayah Doward, Khyra Powell, Kimesha Adams, Makeda Fahie, Misha Walters, Pearline Scatliffe-Leonard, Rogelle Edmondson, Shaika Jeffers, Shakira Skelton, Shamora Penn, Shanika Forbes, Shari’a Romney, Sharoma Penn, Sheniqua Fahie, Tafara Phillip, Tamara Phillip,Thea Cooke and Tyalia Nibbs-Henley.

According to Mr. Smith, one of the trainers for the team, the players were pre-selected based on a criteria which measured their talent, flexibility, agility and strength.

The IX Women’s Pan-American Championship serves as a qualifier for the next Pan-American Games, which will be held in Peru, Lima in 2019.

Four countries will earn their spot along with the host country, Peru, to bring the softball competition to life in the 2019 continental games.

The first five countries of the Women's Pan American Championship will secure a ticket to compete for the Tokyo 2018 WBSC World Championship, the first step to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
