(PLTM) - The community is rallying around their star, Kyron McMsaster, who managed to secure gold at the Jamaica Invitational Meet, yesterday May 20.
McMaster came in first in the 400m hurdles, with a time of 47.80secs, finishing ahead of Jamaican, Jaheel Hyde, with a time of 48.52 secs.
With this time, McMaster also improved his placement in the standings, from second to now being the fastest hurdler in the world in the 400m.
In an interview following his win, an ecstatic McMaster said, “It was a lot of focus, visualization and just running to execute my race as best as I can”.
He stated that with numerous wins and the buzz he is generating, “It will change the game in the BVI for track and field”.
“As far as putting BVI on the map, it feels good. We are a small nation, so that opens up a lot of opportunities, not just for me, but for other athletes as well.”
In advice to other athletes, he noted that regardless of what one may encounter in life, there is always a way, adding that with the right mentor and with the right people around, anything is possible.
“Personally, in my circle, I only have positive people. There’s no one that tells me anything negative, and if they realize that I’m being negative, they would bring me back to the positive side.”
McMaster will be moving on to compete on another invitational meet in Grenada.

BVI’s hurdling star, Kyron McMaster is set to compete later today, May 20, in Jamaica, at the Jamaica Invitational Meet.
McMaster will be competing in the 400m hurdles.
The meet is expected to attract some of the world’s most gifted athletes in various disciplines.
Currently, McMaster is ranked as the second fastest male 400 meter hurdler in the world, following his performance at a meet held at the University of Florida, earlier this year.
Aiming to qualify for this year’s IAAF World Athletic Championships in August 2017, McMaster completed his race in a time of 48.71, shattering the qualifying time of 49.03.
This year’s IAAF World Athletic Championships will be hosted in London.
In an earlier interview with BVI Platinum News, McMaster said, now having qualified for the championships, he intends to do the best he can.
“At London, my aim is to do as best as I can. It’s my first year in the senior division and this isn’t the easiest division. You have to be on you’re A-game at every event. For London, it’s just for me to execute and see how far I go.”
Just months ago, McMaster was ranked as the third fastest male junior in the 400 meter hurdles, following his bronze medal in the IAAF World Under 20 Championships 400 hurdles race, last June, 2016, in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
