(PLTM) - The BVI International Arbitration Centre (BVI IAC) is encouraging other countries, across the region, to explore the avenue of arbitration, noting that there is more to gain than lose from this competition.

“Competition is always good,” said the organizer of this year’s Arbitration Conference, Managing Editor of Business BVI and local businessman, Mr. Russell Harrigan.

With other neighboring countries entering the field of arbitration and constructing their own centres and services, Harrigan noted that this would increase the presence of the field in the region, as well as highlight the world class services and offerings of the BVI IAC.

“If there are other centres in the Caribbean, who are attracting more business to the Caribbean, yes, we would have to run faster to ensure persons come here, but the shared voice that goes out into the international community to encourage persons to come to the region is good for us.”

He noted that with the increased buzz, the BVI is sure to benefit greatly.

“I want to believe that the BVI has advantages that other countries don’t have. We are already a large centre for incorporation, so now it’s how do you get more of those companies to include in their structure, our clauses, for us to arbitrate their disputes in the future.”

Chief Executive Officer of the centre, Mr. Francois Lassalle, concurred with Harrigan, adding that the BVI has achieved in seven years, more than what other countries take at least 20 years to achieve.

"We are ahead and we will keep going. What we have to offer is incredible. We just have to get out there."
