(PLTM) - From now onward, persons in many communities around the British Virgin Islands will be forced to schedule their daily routines and chores, around a systematic water rationing schedule, released by the Water and Sewerage Department.

The schedule, released earlier today, May 26, sees several communities without water for more than 6 hours during the day.

According to the schedule, every day of the week, between 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, communities connected to the Zion Hill Reservoir and Carrot Bay Reservoir will lose water supply.

The communities that stand to be affected are Fort Recovery, West End, Ferry Dock, Dawson, Frenchman’s Cay, Little Apple Bay, Long Bay, Cappoons Bay, Apple Bay, Great Carrot Bay, Ballast Bay and Cane Garden Bay.

Communities that feed off of the Hannah Hill Reservoir will be without water during the week from Monday to Wednesday, and on Fridays from 5:00 am - 9:00 am and from 5:00 pm - 8:00pm.

The communities that would be affected are Duffs Bottom, Sea Cows Bay, Pleasant Valley, Pockwood Pond, and Coxheath.

On the weekends, between 5:00 am - 11:00 am and 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, water supply will be cut to Soldier Hill, Treadfall, Chalwell, Meyers, Sage Mountain and Mayaba.

There was no indication from the department as to when the water rationing would end.

Director for the Water and Sewerage Department, Mrs. Pearline Scatliffe-Leonard said, “We apologise for any inconvenience caused during interruptions to the public water supply, as work continues to ensure the provision of a more sustainable water service.”

She explained that areas on Tortola not identified in the schedule should expect to receive water supply on a 24/7 basis.
