(PLTM) - Two persons were brought before the Magistrate's Court on Friday, June 16, in relation to the investigations into the death of Frankie Fahie, who was murdered on January 6, at his bar in East End.

Charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, Kenaz Hazel, 21, of Purcell Estate, was remanded to prison following his appearance.

Rebekha Persaud, 26, of Josiah’s Bay, who is facing a charge of perverting the course of justice, was offered bail in the sum of $60,000, with two sureties.

According to the crown, led by Senior Principal Crown Counsel, Tiffany Scatliffe-Espirit, on the evening of the murder, Fahie was at his bar with other persons socializing. Jeffery Queeley, who was reportedly wearing jewelry worth over $3000 and had $2000 cash in his pocket, was among the group of men.

The court recorded that the accused, Hazel, entered the bar and purchased one drink with a $100 bill, then left immediately after.

About a minute after, a lone gunman barged into the bar screaming, “Everybody get down”, to which Fahie quickly replied, “Get down what.”

This prompted the gunman to point his gun at Fahie, while still keeping an eye on Queeley.

Fahie was then shot, and the gunman demanded Queeley to free himself of his jewelry and cash.

The gunman then fled the scene. The crown noted that the gunman ran in the same direction as Hazel did when he left the bar earlier in the evening.

Caught On Camera

The crown also informed the court that the accused, as well as the gunman, was caught on CCTV surveillance camera.

The crown outlined that on the night of the shooting, around 10:32 pm, Hazel was seen entering the bar. His attention was reportedly fixed on Queeley.

Having left the bar, Hazel was seen walking in the direction of Old Plantation, with a vehicle trailing him.

At 10:36 pm, the gunman allegedly entered the bar. He was also seen making his escape in the same direction as Hazel, towards Old Plantation.

The crown noted that Hazel’s accomplices, known and unknown, are still at large.

False Account

Investigations by the local force had initially led to Hazel’s arrest, but he was released shortly after, due to a false alibi given by Persaud.

The crown noted that on June 8, Persaud, by volition of her own will, visited the Road Town Police Station and gave evidence of the whereabouts of Hazel on the night of the incident.

The crown noted that the evidence given by both Hazel and Persaud matched.

However, the crown further noted that shortly after, phone evidence showed contact between the two, and information which led to the formation of the story given to police.

Upon her arrest, Persaud admitted to lying to the officers, but noted that she did it out of fear of the accused and his friends.

Both will return to court on September 13.
