Festival Fever Draws Near

(PLTM) - The festival fever is about to take over the British Virgin Islands, as many persons and participants of many of the festival’s activities, begin to close in on their contribution to the festivities.

This year’s 63rd Emancipation Festival will be held under the theme, ‘A Colorful Kaleidoscope To Be Seen, Creating A Cultural Scene For Festival 2017’.

One sign that festival is fast approaching is the construction of the booths and stage at the Festival Village in Road Town. Notably, work on the booths began yesterday afternoon, July 20.

“You know the atmosphere about to change. The place is about to get fun,” said some students of the Elmore Stoutt High School.

The first activity on the festival calendar is this coming Saturday, July 23---the Prince and Princess Pageant, at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall in Road Town.

The Festival Village will be officially opened on July 31, and will be dedicated to the late Neil ‘Mr. Melee’ Blyden.

Festival activities will span from July 23 until August 12.

During the festival, persons will see several high hitting performances from the likes of Tarrus Riley,T-Vice, Bunji Garlin and Fay-Ann Lyons, Jahmiel, Bounty Killer and others.

Other activities include the Soca Monarch competition, several pageants, calypso shows, food fairs, jouvert and parades, and many more.
