It was quite a battle conquered for the newly crowned Emancipation Festival Princess of the Territory, Lyriq Rhymer, who stated that she had to overcome so many fears, including fear of the stage and crowd, to compete in this year’s pageant.
Lyriq was crowned Festival Princess, alongside newly crowned Prince, Jabari Pemberton, following the 2017 Prince and Princess Pageant, last evening July 23, at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall in Road Town.
In an interview with BVI Platinum News, Princess Lyriq, who was still stunned, told BVI Platinum News she was surprised to be announced as the winner.
The modest Princess noted that she had indeed worked hard in preparing for the show, but had thought her fright and fears were very evident in her appearances on stage.
“I’m so shy, I never thought I would’ve won, so when my name was called, I was so surprised,” Lyriq told BVI Platinum News.
She added, “I feel so happy.”
Winning the competition, Lyriq stated that this crown gives her a whole new outlook on life, adding that she would use her story to encourage other young people to push past their fears and conquer their dreams.
(PLTM) - “I was very scared. I did the show because my mother encouraged me and I had some cousins who did the show before, so I wanted to walk in their footsteps.”
She continued, “Now I won, it tells me that I can do anything. No matter what I’m afraid of, I’ll go for it.”
As encouragement to other young people, Lyriq said, “Push yourself, and do not give up.”
Meanwhile, Prince Jabari, who is very confident and talented, said he deserves his win, adding that hard work pays off.
“I feel like a real prince. I worked really hard just to win this. I feel good!”
He told BVI Platinum News that he had interest in doing the show for a very long time.
“I wanted to do this show long time, so I pushed myself a lot to win. My preparation was really hard, but my hard work paid off. I won, so it worked.”
As advice to other young people, Prince Jabari said, “Conquer your fears and do what you have to do.”
The newly crowned Prince and Princess look forward for their year of reign.
