(PLTM) - One of the Premier's Ministers has praised him for exhibiting strength and calmness, following catastrophic hurricane Irma.

Hon. Myron Walwyn, Minister of Education and Culture, made the comments recently during a commemoration ceremony to mark one month since the passage of Irma, which was held at the Queen Elizabeth II Park.

"We have to thank our Premier of these Virgin Islands for the very strong and resilient leadership and the calmness, because that is one of the greatest virtues of the Premier," he stated in the presence of Premier Hon. Dr. D. Orlando Smith.

The Minister added, "In times of disasters, in times of trouble, you need a calm person at the head. And we have a calm leader in somebody who we love very much."

In the past, Premier Smith has been accused of not being a strong enough leader. These criticisms also came from within the National Democratic Party (NDP).

Minister Walwyn also praised newly appointed Governor Gus Jaspert, who he said is the right Governor for the Territory at this time.

"I would like to thank the Governor himself, and I must confess that I haven't had the best relationship with Governors, but I am indeed very pleased that you were the Governor of the Virgin Islands at this time," Hon. Walwyn said.
