(PLTM) - The daily curfew has been further amended, and now begins from 11:00 pm to 6:00 am, Governor Gus Jaspert announced today, Friday, October 20. The new time commences from today.

"It is really encouraging to see restaurants, bars and other social gathering spots starting to reopen, and amending the curfew not only allows more time to relax, but also helps to build our businesses back up," the Governor said.

He added, "But we must also balance this to ensure that we keep communities reassured of their safety and to allow essential roadworks to be carried out overnight."

He also disclosed that 54 United Kingdom (UK) police officers will be departing the Territory over the weekend, as the UK continues to wind down its support of law enforcement.

"Yesterday I addressed an official farewell to thank the 54 UK police officers who have now reached the end of their deployment. I know that many of them say farewell with heavy hearts and have been humbled and inspired by the strength of the community and the beauty of our stunning Virgin Islands," he said.

The Governor said that many have promised to return here one day for a holiday.

"They depart this weekend when we are set to welcome a new rotation of UK officers to assist us as we rebuild and recover."

Governor Jaspert thanked the UK, Cayman Islands and Bermuda police officers who have been working alongside the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force since Hurricane Irma.
