(PLTM) - The business community continues to step up, as FLOW has pledged over $500,000 towards the rebuilding of the Bregado Flax Educational Centre Secondary Division on Virgin Gorda.

“Another successful meeting! We just came to another agreement where Flow will be donating another five hundred and forty thousand dollars ($540,000 US), which will go towards Bregado Flax Educational Centre Secondary Division,” Hon. Myron Walwyn, Minister of Education and Culture said on Thursday, January 11.

This comes a day after Unite BVI promised a donation of $1M towards the same school.

Most schools were damaged following the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, but corporate BVI has risen to the challenge by making several pledges to help rebuild the schools.

Some of the notable donors include businessman, Mr. Peter Haycraft of Road Town Wholesale Co. Ltd., Oil Nut Bay, BVI Asia House, Systems Engineering and FDL Consult Inc., and Mr. Raymond Hung.

Under the proposed $721M Recovery and Development Plan for the Territory, $43.59M is earmarked for education, including rebuilding of schools.

According to the plan, the immediate priority is to get temporary facilities to accommodate classes across the Territory, whilst the plans for the short term repair and replacement of the permanent infrastructure is executed and the long-term plans for modernizing educational infrastructure is developed.
