(PLTM) - Commissioner of Police, Mr. Michael Matthews is not in support of putting a curfew in place at this time, in wake of the recent gun related crimes.

Further, he said that there is no need to overuse the stop/search operations.

A curfew was in placed following the devastating hurricanes last year, and it was lifted on December 22.

"I know that the vast majority of our citizens are good and law-abiding. That is why I personally do not feel a curfew or the overuse of standard stop/search operations would be effective or a valuable use of our limited resources," he said in a statement on February 21.

Matthews said that targeted, intelligence-led searches are, and that is exactly what they will continue to do.

"And with the small, but growing number of persons coming forward and speaking, we are carrying out these searches, timely and regularly. The more information we have, the more searches we can carry out. Just because you don’t see us doing it, doesn’t mean we are not," he stated.

The Top Cop said asked that parents do their part in searching about their premises, backyards, in bedrooms and under beds.

"We are continuing to target those who use, bring in to the territory or seek to conceal such weapons."

He appealed, "If you know of someone who has a firearm or where one might be stashed, contact us or get that information to us through whatever means possible."

Residents were told that failing to act is not an excuse in the eyes of the law.

"We don’t want to just be there to attend another murder scene and with your help we can certainly reduce that possibility," Matthews stated.
