(PLTM) - The public is reminded that the Customs Duty exemption period will expire on March 31, 2018.
However, residents who can provide proof that the items covered under the Customs Management and Duties (Amendment of Schedule 4) Order, 2018 were purchased prior to March 31, 2018, will be allowed to import those goods into the Territory duty free up until June 30, 2018.
According to government, proof of such purchases may include dated payment receipts, wire transfers, credit card payments, or any other documents as approved by the Commissioner of Customs.
“The government has recognised the challenges experienced with the procuring and shipping of goods,” government stated.
Following the September storms, residents and businesses benefited from customs relief and remission for certain items, including building materials.
Then in December, government announced a further three months, which ends month end.
On the first list of supplies there were food and water; building materials; electrical fixtures and materials; plumbing fixtures and materials; household furniture, furnishings and appliances; pharmaceuticals; generators; and cleaning supplies.
Then weeks later, government also waived customs duties on food, clothing, vehicles and other non-luxury items.
