Cabinet Members Identified! Vincent Wheatley Returns As Minister

(PLTM) - The members of the next Virgin Islands Cabinet have been identified and among them is Ninth District Representative, Hon. Vincent Wheately, who had stepped down as Minister of Natural Resources Labour and Immigration to allow for the formation of the Government of National Unity.
Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley has not assigned ministerial portfolios just yet and will likely do so before an official inauguration ceremony for the new Government. As anticipated, the National Democratic Party's (NDP) Hon. Smith, a former First Lady, was sworn-in as Deputy Premier after brokering a deal earlier today to join with the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), ensuring the seven seats required to form the next Government following general elections on Monday, April 24.
Also taking the oath of Minister were, Hon. Kye Rymer, whose most recent appointment was Deputy Premier and Minister for Communication and Works in the Government of National Unity. Former Minister of Education, Hon. Sharie de Castro will return to the Cabinet in the new Government.
Additionally, taking the oath of office as Junior Ministers were first-time winners, Dr. Karl Dawson, First District-Elect and Luce Hodge-Smith, Fourth District-Elect.
Their portfolios are still to be assigned.

Congrats to the new Government. To all of you that is upset about Lorna being the Deputy Premier, simply, get over it. She did what she had to do. The uproar is because she is a Woman and women should sit in a corner and keep their mouths shut. THOSE DAYS ARE OVER AND WILL NO LONGER BE TOLERATED. Congrats to all the female candidates that stepped into the arena. One of you women will be Premier and one will be deputy Premier next election season. I strongly agree that Lorna opened the door for a woman to be premier. So ladies, step in the open door and claim your rightful spot at the head of the table.Don’t ever, I repeat, don’t ever underestimate the power of a woman or think a woman is weak or fragile.

You are so correct, if it was a man, would there be such an uproar? She made a decision and she did what she had to do. This thing about she sold out her party and betrayed the voters is just utter nonsense. If the voters is saying they were betrayed, they are the ones that put themselves in the saturation to be betrayed. Of course they are angry because a woman is second in command, a first for the BVI. Watch next election, a woman is going to be first and second in command. I would also like to say congratulations to all the women that were on the campaign trail. Everyone of you did well.

Let\'s move on
We just had a free, fair and transparent elections and we all know we had to live with whatever the results would be. There must be a winner and a loser. There is no need to be bitter nor blame Natalio, Lorna, nor VIP. I am not a VIP supporter & did not vote for them, but I like the outcome & will support the government. I am disappointed & ashamed of Ronnie, Mitch, Myron, Fraser & Marlon who because of arrogance, pride, greed and selfishness could not form the Government with the seven members they had. As a woman it seems to me they took for granted Lorna because she is a woman and like most men think of woman they should be seen and not heard and accept what is decided. They are the ones who have proven to be greedy and a mistake. Long Live the Prosperity of the BVI.

I really thought Lou would be given the Ministry of health and culture , she deserves that, she would have done well and make a difference. Someone force her to take that back bench JM position. .Marlon and Ronnie less. While they there wasting time figbting with Frazer they should hsve been on the phone with Vincent and Lou, try get one of those. Lou would have given them consideration for a ministerial position. Sowande didn\'t support Lou , shd wasn\'t a happy camper. I think Lou will switch, she is not young, she is not Sowande favourit. She needz to make a difference get a ministry and show her true colours, she is very capable..

Common sense
On the contrary, Lorna still represents NDP at a senior position in government, would you rather NDP be relegated to a junior position and have Ronnie or some other party candidate sit in the Deputy Premier position. It was going to be a coalition government regardless with VIP gaining only 6 seats, through Lorna NDP get more of a say than they otherwise would have done had she not been successful. Incredible effort on her part.

And the alternative was what? There was obviously gridlock on the other side with unreasonably demands , This is chess not checker , to have an impact you have to be a part of the Government . She is now in a position where she can deliver what she promised . If the others could not come to a consensus that would leave her on the opposition where she would not be as effective. The people wanted her in and she is in; promise kept.
