Update: Skelton Sworn In As Opposition Leader

(PLTM) - Governor John Rankin swore in Hon. Ronnie Skelton as Leader of the Opposition this afternoon, April 27.
According to his Office, this follows the Elections held in the Territory on Monday 24 April 2023 and is in accordance with Section 70(2)(a) of the VI Constitution Order, 2007.

Leader of the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) Hon. Ronnie Skelton will be sworn in as Opposition Leader later this afternoon, April 27.
The announcement was made today during a joint press conference by PVIM, National Democratic Party (NDP) and Progressives United (PU).
The members agreed to have Hon. Skelton as the next Opposition Leader.
The new government is the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) led by Premier Hon. Natalio Wheatley. At the polls, VIP received six seats; PVIM-3; NDP-3; and PU-1.
However, before negotiations were concluded, NDP's Lorna Smith joined forces with the VIP which resulted in them having seven seats to form the new government.

Hon. Skelton, we really thought you would have had an opportunity to fix NHI but please try as much as you can. It is being abused by the medical practitioners and the BVI people continues to suffer.

Ronnie and Mitch have no integrity. They were undermining the NDP 4 years ago and lied to Marlon about wanting to merge before the election and now want to say they were going to merge for the government? I guess we all have a short memory. \n\nAs for Marlon, you have made strange bedfellows, they are not genuine and will stab you in the back. Your anger toward Lorna is understandable but as a leader, you should not be so quick to act with hatred.

The Opposition is now filled with men who are professionals at getting revenge.

Pure mischief is what we will see from these guys out of bitterness that they did not, could not, & would not form the government out of greed, ego, personal agendas, and selfishness but will make their now wicked intentions look like good governance. Destroy at all costs is now their aim because if they cannot have it then no one else should have it. What a pity. What a shame. What a disgrace.

Well he looks very smart compared to the scruffy looking Governor.\n\nUnfortunately our constitution means that the opposition has no real means of influencing or limiting the power of the government. \n\nWe are going to have to rely on Lorna to try to do that.

From that Photo you can see the Governor liked Ronnie and wanted him to be Premier... Britain has no confidence in VIP, don\'t be surprised if the push for suspension get gas.

Ronnie & Marlon and them could not unite to form a government to build the country but will unite in the opposition to destroy but make it look like they are building it up. SMDH

A strong opposition is exactly what the country needed. With this group of men, I know that they will work hand-in-hand to ensure that laws are upheld and money is well spent.

Push to repeal that greedy bill Ronnie. Well its too late now. Do the best you can to hold the Govt accountable..You will soon be Premier, someone on VIP will soon become disgruntled and unhappy..Then again you still have that Elephant on the opposition with you that know one wants to work with and can\'t work with anyone, so you will be stuck in the opposition until the next 4 yrs..

Ronnie does not realize that Mitch is his biggest problem. Ditch Mitch. He was so scared during the election that he bought out many people, dragged the elderly and disabled out , sometimes without their families consent not to mentioned the many people he ... for to come in from away. And all of that just to sit on the opposition. I am not a VIP fan but this is poetic justice. This guy and his family is power hungry. I heard him yesterday mentioned about integrity. Unless he has changed the meaning of that word, there is nothing about him that speaks of integrity.

Don’t put the blame on Hon Lorna smith 2nd in command. She did what she had to do. I am glad her and Hon Wheatley is the Premier and Deputy Premier. Leave Hon Lorna Smith alone. And look at you Fraser, from top DOG to the DOG POUND. Fraser, you sure got a lot of nerves. YOU WILL NEVER BE PREMIER. I DON’T CARE HOW MANY YEARS YOU SPENT IN GOVERNMENT, YOUR GREED AND QUEST FOR POWER TOOK YOU DOWN. SNAKEEEEE WITH THE PART IN THE MIDDLE OF HEAD.

Have you been paying attention. She used NDP to get elected, then STABBED them in the back while negotiations were ongoing to get herself a deputy position in the VIP. Betrayal of the worst type. Then she LIED about forming a VIP/NDP coalition. Yes, she is definitely to blame. Conniving and deceitful. People who voted for her deserve better.
