Police have formally charged four persons in connection with the cash seized onboard a vessel which landed around 10:20 pm on Friday in the area of Road Reef.
The four persons, David Hodge, 35 years of Road Town; Chaim Todman, 31 years of Johnsons Ghut; Elvis Thomas, 49 years of Sea Cows Bay and Preta Karran, 22 years, a Guyanese national residing in Long Bush, were all charged with being concerned in the supply of cocaine to another.
Hodge, Todman and Thomas were charged with landing in the Territory without leave from an Immigration Officer and failing to declare monies. The captain, Chaim Todman was also charged with knowingly assisting persons to land in the Territory.
Over $225,000 was seized in the operation.
Superintendent of the Crime Division, Alwyn James commended officers for their excellent work in this operation. "Timing and effective execution was paramount in making this operation a success. These officers did the job and did it well," he said.
They are expected to appear in court this week.
Commissioner of Her Majesty's Customs, Wade Smith had told BVI Platinum News that there were no records that the monies were declared and no record that customs officials were notified of the vessel coming in.
Senior officials also said that initial information suggests that the men were returning from St. Thomas.
